The Teton Sports Outfitter XXL camp cot is usually an easy recommendation when it comes to the best oversize camping cots. A closer look at the craftsmanship and materials used on the cot makes its marked-up price all the more worth it.
A wide sleeping deck and heavy-duty structuring are just a few of the many benefits you will get with this camping cot.
The “XXL” in the cot’s title signifies that this is an oversize type of camping cot. The large sleeping surface, which measures 85 inches long by 40 inches wide, and the hefty load capacity of 600 pounds further affirm this fact.
This oversize, heavy-duty camping cot affords enough real estate to provide a bed-like experience with the conveniences of an easily-assembled cot.
The really big guys are finally catered for in the camping cots arena.
The XXL cot features an aluminum frame with steel legs, all of which guarantee longevity, strength, and stability. Its S-shaped leg design further adds to the strength and stability of the cot.
You will appreciate the rubber bushings on the legs which help absorb shock and provide firmer support. Forget about those cots that tear into your tent’s footprint.
The frame is held firmly in place using easy-attach connecting pins, which come in handy when tearing down or setting up the cot. Basically, the fabric cover is held tautly in place by the side poles and end bars.
Nothing can get more luxurious than sleeping on top of the high-density oxford fabric (600 denier rating) especially when you are outdoors. You can even throw a sleeping pad or an air mattress for an even comfier experience. And don’t forget that this comfy sleeping deck is elevated 19 inches off the ground!
Any body size or weight is easily supported by the Outfitter XXL cot. In fact, this cot will withstand up to 600 pounds without the slightest of creaks. To put that into perspective, three adult-sized kangaroos weigh about six hundred pounds together.
Tearing down and setting everything back is fairly easy and quick with the XXL cot. However, the cot can’t really be considered lightweight and portable.
Weighing at about 26 pounds, hauling this cot around will definitely take a toll. But that is to be expected for oversize camping cots. A side-load carrying bag with shoulder straps is included to help make movability of the cot facile.
The bag is tote-like and unzipped thus may expose your precious cot to the elements.
To use the Outfitter XXL cot, you first need to lay out the components ‐ the sleeping deck, end bars, and supportive legs. The S-legs will fold up or down easily and getting the end bars onto the side poles is quite easy due to the included pivot arm.
The pivot arm, or rather the red lever, makes snapping the last end bar into place seem like child’s play. If you get a model that doesn’t come with the red lever, then a hammer or small crowbar will just be as effective.
Those two processes are essentially the only steps you get involved with during setups and teardowns. It can take you as much as five minutes or even lesser time. However, you will need to watch out for the end bars popping especially if you move the cot around by the bars.
We found the cot to be still large (42” x 12” x 7”) when packed hence will take up much of your space. Be aware of this fact while making purchase decision.
All said and done, this cot is well-designed to face head-on the extremes of the great outdoors. It is rugged and large enough to support most people’s weights and heights. This makes it especially ideal for any outdoorsy activity as long as it’s not backpacking or hiking.
More specifically, this is a camping cot for heavy people.
You will, of course, need a car or some other means to transport the cot over long distances else it will be too bulky to carry around.
It can also make for a very comfortable spare bed for your sleepover guests. The sleeping deck is large enough to cater for larger persons, two people sleeping together, or anyone who tosses and turns constantly.

We ranked the Teton Sports XXL cot second in the oversize category of cots in our review of the best camping cots of the year. It came only second to the Byer of Maine’s Easy cot due to a few misgivings such as excessive weight.
The Teton Sports XXL cot weighs more than any other in its category. This is particularly so because the cot is heavy-duty and extra wide. It is specifically built for those who need a wide sleeping surface.
I had the Teton Sports XXL and truly enjoyed the comfort it afforded me being a tall male. The weight is a factor when having to haul it around and it takes up a lot of space in the tent.
All factors put at equilibrium, the Teton Sports XXL cot is a great choice. In fact, over 90% of other independent expert reviewers recommend this cot. Are you in for a trial? Choice is yours!
